The environmental strategy specifically focuses on challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as circular economy. Our two overarching goals are: (i) to educate our students as future leaders who will need to address these challenges, and (ii) become carbon neutral as a university by 2030, an effort lead by our Climate Solutions Taskforce.
More generally, at the HSG we take a comprehensive view of sustainability, not only including environmental topics but also social sustainability and ethical dimensions. As such, as well as newly addressing sustainable development goals (SDGs) like «Life on Land» (14), and «Life under Water» (15), we also continue to integrate other SDGs already identified in our 2018 UNPRME report, including «Gender Equality» (5), «Affordable and Clean Energy» (7), «Climate Action» (13), «Responsible Production and Consumption» (12), «Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions» (16), and «Partnerships for the Goals» (17).
«We are now embarking on a path to actively integrate these into our formal curriculum, co-curricular activities, research, and campus infrastructure and other operational processes. Achieving this would not be possible without the support of many members within our university, in administration, as well as students and faculty.»
Prof. Judith Walls, Delegate for Responsibility & Sustainability
«Climate risk is one of the greatest challenges facing business in the 21st century. The strong demand for courses and programmes like the Managing Climate Solutions (MaCS) certificate indicates that HSG students are increasingly looking for ways to have a positive impact.»
Prof. Rolf Wüstenhagen, Co-Head, Climate Solutions Task Force
